New Warning Labels for CCA Treated Wood

The treated wood industry, in response to concerns over the safety of CCA-treated wood, recently began a voluntary program to label CCA wood with warning labels explaining the safety hazards associated with this product. Below you will find scanned images of one of the actual warning labels removed from a piece of CCA lumber at a local Home Depot store. This little tiny label, which measures a mere 1" x 3 1/4", is the only safety information about this potentially hazardous product that is readily available to consumers at the time of purchase . (The author noted that there were no posters, flyers, Material Safety Data Sheets, or brochures available at the lumber counter for consumers.)

Therefore, consumers should remember to bring their magnifying glasses to the hardware store to read the fine print on both sides of the warning label, so they can make an informed purchasing decision!
